We are eager to share with you this month’s blog, written by our Managing Director, Tim Langford-Smith, on the progression of Marketing over the last 25 years and our evolution in delivering strategic creative solutions. So, who and what is JAZ, or more importantly – what’s our story?

It all began 25 years ago in 1992, when I established JAZ armed with a Mac IIcx and a pocket full of dreams. Back in 1992 life was much simpler when it came to marketing – you either had Print, Radio, TV or all of the above to market your products or services.

Not long after, the web came into existence and added another dimension, and the ability to go beyond your geographic location and reach global markets. No sooner did we start to get a handle on the web, and social media burst on to the scene. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram to name a few.

Marketing now is much more complex, requiring multi levels and channels. For most, it’s both confusing and overwhelming, with a lot of conflicting advice and never-ending options.

The good news is, that the basic fundamentals of marketing haven’t changed; having a clear goal, consistent messaging and identifying the key demographic, and even better news is you have us at JAZ.

JAZ is, and always has been, a design and marketing company providing strategic creative solutions. We understand the complexities of the marketing, the different channels and constantly refine our approach to keep ahead of the game, or at least, in the game!

With the multi levels and channels of marketing, we need to have many strings to our bow.  In simple terms we;

  1. Plan

Planning is the key, everything we do is strategically designed with an end objective in mind.  As they say, failing to plan is planning to fail.

  1. Create

Creativity is at the very core of what we do, we create designs, generate content and develop brands. If content is the king, then design is the queen. Good content is made stronger with rich and engaging design.

  1. Review

Reviewing and monitoring what you have done is critical as for any business large or small. When was the last time you looked at your Google Analytics? Do you even have Google Analytics set up on your web site? The insights they provide are highly valuable in understanding your client/ consumer needs.


One of our recent success stories has been working with the Meningitis Centre Australia, to lobby the federal government through social media and change.org, with the end game of having the vaccination for Meningococcal free for Australian families. Within two and a half weeks of the campaign launch, the Federal Government announced come July 1st 2018, the vaccine would go on the National Immunisation Plan and be made available to all Australian children aged 12 months (the most vulnerable demographic).

Strategic planning and clever manipulation of digital channels helped us achieve this rewarding and impressive result.
